It is a pre-printed map that requires the base game to play.

In order to settle this region, you need the game pieces and cards from The Settlers of Catan game. You will also need additional markers for iron commodities and victory points (VPs)tokens; you can use chips from the Seafarers expansion, coins, or whatever else is handy.
