    Description

This is an expanded version of what was first known as Belagerungsspiel, Jeu du Siege, Game of Siege and today is called Asalto.

The standard game has 24 pawns attacking two defenders, and attempting to fill the fortress' nine spots. This game uses the same mechanic, but has 50 attackers against three defenders, and 17 spaces in the fortress.

As in the standard game, defenders can move in any direction and eliminate attackers by jumping them. Attackers can only move forward (directly or diagonally). To win, the attackers must occupy all the spaces in the fort, while the defenders have to eliminate enough pieces to make this impossible.

This expanded version seems to have developed in the late 19th Century. Parker Brothers' Hold the Fort in 1895 had the same 50 attackers and 3 defenders, but a fort of only 13 spaces.
