La Bataille de Schoengrabern 1805
DescriptionLa Bataille de Schöngrabern 1805 , which was made famous in Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, recreates the fight between French Imperial Prince Joachim Murat’s advance guard, having just taken Vienna from the Austrians, and the Russian rear guard led by General Peter Bagration, Bagration was desperately trying to buy enough time for Prince Mikhail Kutuzov to unite two separated parts of his large Russian-Austrian army in the maneuvering before the Battle of Austerlitz. Murat has dallied for a few days after his capture of Vienna, trying to accomplish victory through diplomacy and trickery rather than force of arms, and the Russians used Murat’s vanity to keep the formerly hard-pressing French from catching the spread-out Russian forces in detail. The result is a small but sharp battle on November 16, 1805 which allowed the Russians enough time to unite their armies. La Bataille de Schöngrabern 1805 includes more than 100 counters, representing both the French Imperial forces and such leaders as Oudinot and Suchet; and the Russian rearguard represented by counters for Bagration; assorted Russian Cossacks, Austrian Hussars and Russian Jaegers. There are two 11 X17 maps, with much of the territory taken up by the extensive vineyards. Game DiscussionsAdd CommentYou need to be logged in to comment.
