    Description

Nume is a territory game for two players: Black and White. It is played on the spaces (cells) of an initially empty hexagonal grid of hexagons with sides alternating in length between n and n + 2 cells. Each player must have access to a sufficient number of stones of their own color and a pen to write on them.

    Definitions

A group is a stone along with all other like-colored stones one could reach from it through a series of steps between adjacent stones of its color.

The size of a group is the number of stones in it.

The price of a group is the highest number obtainable by selecting, from that group, a stone that has a number written on it and computing the absolute value of the difference between that number and the size of that group.

    Play

Black plays first, then turns alternate. On your turn, place a stone of your color on an empty cell. If this stone creates a new group, write a whole number on it.

The game ends when the board is full. The player with the lower score in the final position wins. Your score is the sum of the prices of all your groups on the board, plus a komi when applicable.

    Komi

The komi is the number of points which is added to the score of one of the players to offset turn order advantage. To avoid ties, the value of komi must be of the form n + 0.5, where n is a whole number.

Before the game starts, the first player chooses the value of komi and which side will receive it, and then the second player chooses sides. Alternatively, experienced players may agree on a standard value and recipient side for all games. A half-point komi for Black is suggested as a default value.

    Variants

Square: Played on the intersections of a square grid. In the definition of group, "adjacent" means only "orthogonally adjacent". To avoid mirror play, either use an odd-sized board or always give a komi to Black.
