In Space Buccaneers, you start out as a lowly vagabond looking to make a living by running jobs out of Buccaneer’s Den and appealing to The Man… the head behind all illicit business that happens in this corner of the galaxy. Successfully deliver on your contracts to gain credit and renown; fail, and you’ll find The Man’s confidence in your capabilities will dip. Work to upgrade your menial starting ship and crew to better push your luck within the Galactic Underground Trading Route (GUTR) and become the richest, most famous freebooter of all!

Space Buccaneers is game about taking on jobs and attempting to deliver their cargo to the furthest location possible along the GUTR. The trading route is comprised of a series of planetary systems willing to do business with the Den. The further along the route that you deliver, the more credit and renown you will gain. Along the course, you’ll be attempting to resolve events by rolling dice provided by your ship and crew. These are resolved by matching the symbols on the event cards with the symbols on the dice. As you roll misses and are forced to set dice aside, you’ll have to decide if you risk pushing on to profit from greater gains or not. If you roll too many misses, your delivery attempt will be cut short and your reputation will suffer. Events get harder as you press along the GUTR; the better your ship and crew the better your odds. The game ends when one of the players reaches the renown threshold. After which, players will have a chance to complete their turns, and the player with the highest amount of renown will be declared the victor.
