One example of the humor: If you miss a laser shot, you can roll on the "Laser Shots That Go Off the Edge of the Map Table"; one of the possible results is "Shot hits a ship in another sci fi game," and the rules encourage you to choose such a game that you own and leave a note for yourself to take maximum damage on a random ship before you start playing it next time.
